These countries played in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Rugby World Cup with New Zealand coming out with a dominant win (46-14) on its way to winning the bronze medal.

During pool play this year, Ireland looked as good as it ever has in the Rugby World Cup. They dominated all but one match, against South Africa, where Ireland showed it can win in the mud with a 13-8 victory.

On the other side for New Zealand, aside from the loss to France, it crushed the competition in Pool A by a combined score in the other three wins of 240-20 against Namibia, Italy and Uruguay.
